18th Century French Directoire Commode
This simple, but elegant 18th century French Directoire commode was made in the late 18th century. It’s simple lines and beautiful patina make it a perfect piece for a bedroom, living room, entrance, and even a French Provincial dining room. The “smaller” proportions make it more versatile.
It can easily go in a home with traditional or modern interiors.
The Directoire period in France began after the French Revolution. It was a reaction to the opulent period of Louis XVI. They deliberately got rid of all of the “fancy” styles and began making more understated pieces with clean lines and excellent proportions.
Solid woods like walnut and fruitwood were preferred.
