Antique Side Table, Napoleon III Style
This gorgeous antique side table dates back to around 1860 and comes from France. Made during the Napoleon III period, it is a typical piece of the Louis XVI revival which was popular during the reign of Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie.
The side table has a beautiful floral and geometric marquetry pattern made of kingwood, tulip wood and other exotic woods.
A flower basket framed by a geometric marquetry motif decorates the top. The table has one central drawer and, as a special feature, a pull out shelf on one side.
This antique side table is a very special piece, which impressively shows the masterful craftsmanship of this French furniture period.
Napoleon III Furniture
The Second Empire style lasted from 1848-1880 and is also known as the Napoleon III Style. Typified by its eclectic characteristics in architecture and decorative arts, it flourished under the reign of Napoleon III. It left a substantial influence on both, Europe and the United States.
Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (1808-1873) was Emperor of France from 1852 to 1870 under the name of Napoleon III.
The Louis XVI style or more precisely the furnishings made for Marie-Antoinette set the tone for the Second Empire interiors. The Empress Eugénie, who adored Marie-Antoinette, initiated the resurgence of Louis XVI-style elements such as flower-baskets and tied ribbons.
The Louis XVI-Empress-style copied and was inspired by the works of Carlin, Weisweiler and Riesener and was presented to the public at the Universal Exhibition of 1867 .

The antique side table is in very good refinished condition and measures Height: 28.75 in. (73 cm), Diameter: 18.12 in. (46 cm). It ships from Germany and includes shipping costs to Boston.

Items are typically delivered within 2 weeks of the purchase date.

All sales are final once buyer or buyer’s agent takes possession of an item.
Upon inspection, if you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller.
Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final.
