Antique Sled, Switzerland 19th century
Very rare antique sled coming from Switzerland and dating back to the first half of the 19th century. The wooden sled shows some remaining color and gilding. The curved skids are decorated at the front end with a naturalistically hand-carved bird’s head. The middle part has a seat with a banister like backrest. The open side of the seat was wide enough for the 19th century ladies, dressed with petticoats and skirts, to sit down sideways comfortably. At the back end of the sled is a handle to push it through the snow.
Height: 35.44 in. (90 cm), Width: 63 in. (160 cm), Depth: 19.69 in. (50 cm). In very good original condition.
