Batchelor Chest With Brush Slide, Mahogany, English, George III Period
This is a classic George III Period mahogany Batchelor chest with brush slide. It dates back to 1770. Many of these pieces have a “pull-out” panel, or a “brush slide” that was used to lay out one’s clothes for the day, thus the origin of the name.
This chest has a beautiful cross banded mahogany top with side by side flame mahogany panels. The front drawers are, also, flame mahogany, and the chest rests upon bracket feet. The chest has been expertly polished in England to showcase the fine patina.
There are a variety of uses for these chests. They can be used beside a bed, alongside a sofa, or against a wall where the beautiful wood can show. The scale of these small chests make them very adaptable in today’s interiors.
