This elegant, straight-lined early Biedermeier commode with a cherry veneer, crafted around 1820 in Southern Germany, exemplifies the refined aesthetic of the period. The chest is veneered in beautifully book-matched cherry on softwood, with an upper edge inlaid with walnut, providing a subtle yet striking contrast. The commode features three spacious drawers, each equipped with inlet locks and adorned with central ebonized hash diamond decorations. These understated details, combined with the simplicity of form, reflect the clean, functional style characteristic of early Biedermeier design. The piece has been expertly restored and hand-polished with shellac, enhancing the natural beauty of the cherry veneer. An interesting historical detail is the presence of an old transport sticker from the Kgl. Bayer. State Railways, indicating the commode’s original journey from Deggendorf.
