Biedermeier Card Table
This Biedermeier Card Table is destined to become a favorite in your home. From its gorgeous column to its swiveling fold-out top, it’s a true rarity, embodying the qualities of both a Biedermeier piece and a contemporary game table. Place it in your living room, office, or lounge, for instance, and return to it after dinner every night.
This Biedermeier table is straight from the 1830s/40s. At the turn of the 19th century, when European society began a radical transformation with the Industrial Revolution, a middle-class with artisan tastes began to emerge. Biedermeier is the style of that moment, a rejection of the lavish Baroque, and later Neoclassicism, of the 18th century. Its primary philosophy is to showcase the quality of its materials.
The top of the table features a breathtaking walnut wood veneer, full of natural swirls and geometry. The column is perhaps the most impressive wood feature, with a surprisingly full body and decorative qualities.
The real star of the table, however, is the green leather-coated card-playing surface that unfurls delicately via a swiveling hinge. It’s so smooth and elegant, you’ll want to return to a different era and play cards by the fading glimmers of a gaslamp.
