Cubic Walnut Biedermeier Box, Inlays, Austria circa 1830
This elaborately crafted cubic Biedermeier box is made of a walnut veneer with inlay work featuring branch slices and mahogany veneer. It also has several band inlays in maple and ebony. The top center is adorned with an inlaid butterfly in maple with fire burnt decor, and the interior is covered with red velvet fabric and cushion. The box has a key crest in mother of pearl diamond shape and four attached feet standing outward. It has been restored and hand polished with shellac, and features brass hinges and a working old lock. A truly stunning addition to any collection of antique boxes.
