A beautiful Empire drop front desk made in France around 1810
This Secretaire a abattant catches your eye with a stunning pyramid mahogany veneer on the front. Additionally two massive columns frame the writing top and the two large lower drawers. The brass capitals and bases of the columns correspond with the exquisite original brass fittings.
They also contrast beautifully with the dark color of the wood.
The inside of the secretaire was used for organizing documents and storing writing implements and papers. It is divided by three ebonized, spiraling twisted column shafts with brass capitals and bases and two smaller drawers.
This functional desk of the early 19th century can easily be the center piece in a modern interior living or library area. Keep it open and combine it with a modern chair. Or even use it as an eye catcher in your entry hall.
If the architectural background is contemporary an antique piece of furniture with patina can add beautifully to the atmosphere of the room. The magic word is counterbalance.
