Josephine / Louis XVI Roll Top Bureau, Walnut Veneer with Inlays, Vienna, Austria circa 1780
A beautiful Louis XVI roll top bureau from Vienna, Austria. This unique piece is from the Josephine (after Josef II. / Habsburg monarchy) period of Louis XVI and dates back to 1780. The bureau features eye-catching walnut inlays with maple and precious woods. The exterior is shiny thanks to a shellac polish. The bureau is in excellent original condition and showcases a tasteful patina. Original brass fittings contrast nicely against the roll top bureau’s wooden body. The bottom two drawers have original box locks. Inside the bureau’s compartments is an interior with a dark brown leather top. The bureau stands on four carved feet surrounded by decorative bands. Overall, a charming roll top bureau.
