Marcel Breuer Chairs, Germany, 20th century
The so called “Ceska Chairs” were designed by Marcel Breuer around 1928. The here offered chairs were made around 1930-40. They have a chrome-plated frame and base, with lacquered wood and rattan back and seat. A classic example for 20th century Bauhaus furniture design.
The Cesca Chair was named Cesca as a tribute to Breuer’s adopted daughter Francesca (nicknamed Ceska). The three official manufacturers of the chair were: Thonet (from 1927), Gavina (1950s), and Knoll (1960s). The seat is 18.11″(46cm) high. The chairs are in very good condition.
