Round Expandable Dining Table, Cherry Wood, France, Paris circa 1880.
A lovely round expandable dining table featuring a cherry veneer and solid wood, refinished and hand-polished with shellac. Showcasing straight, conical square legs with ebonized rings.
This dining table includes an expanding mechanism made from solid oak, stamped Emery & Ragot, Paris.
The round expandable dining table contains four cherry-veneered pine wood extension leaves, each 45 cm (17.7″) long. The extensions are a later addition. The table expands from 128 cm to 308 cm (50.4″ to 121.25″) and includes two extra legs in the middle for stabilization. The long dining table fully extends and offers space for up to 14 people.
Since the original extension leaves for the dining table were crafted only from softwood, a tablecloth covering was used. During our restoration, we added veneered plates in order to showcase the table without any cover when expanded.
