William & Mary Chest Of Drawers, 17th century
This piece is a rare William & Mary yew wood chest of drawers, circa 1695. Yew wood is a very rare hardwood, and grows so knotty that to find pieces that could be used to seamlessly construct and match pieces for a chest is extraordinary. This wood has not been available since the late 17th – early 18th century. Because of this, yew wood was rarer than walnut. The wood grain has stunning patterning and a rich warmth of tone. The tops and sides of this chest have beautiful cross banding. The drawers have teardrop pulls and the chest sits on bun feet, classic to this period.
