Small Biedermeier Chest of Drawers, South Germany, circa 1820
This elegant small Biedermeier chest of drawers dates to circa 1820 and comes from Southern Germany. It features a compact, well-balanced form and three practical drawers.
The Biedermeier piece is veneered in warm walnut and showcases a striking dolphin marquetry motif at the center of the front. Fine decorative details in maple and yew wood add contrast, enhanced with delicate pyrography work. Expert craftsmen refinished the surface with a traditional hand-polished shellac, giving the wood a rich depth and soft sheen.
