Large Mid-Century Modern Rosewood Desk, Germany, 1960s
Impressive large mid-century modern freestanding desk crafted in Germany circa 1960. This large executive desk features a clean-lined architectural design, beautifully refinished in richly figured rosewood veneer and hand-polished with traditional shellac, highlighting the depth and character of the wood grain.
Designed to be viewed from all sides, the desk offers generous storage and workspace. The square overhanging writing surface conceals open compartments beneath, while the left side contains three drawers, including one lockable drawer. On the right, a lockable cabinet door opens to reveal an interior shelf. At the rear, a lockable drop-front compartment provides additional storage and functionality.
The contrasting light maple veneer interior creates a refined visual balance with the warm rosewood exterior. The desk stands on four stainless steel legs, lending a distinctly modernist appearance.
An original German “Echtes Holz” (Real Wood) label remains inside the cabinet door. During the 1950s and 1960s, German furniture manufacturers applied this quality mark to certify genuine wood construction and distinguish their work from the growing number of lower-cost synthetic alternatives entering the market.
The desk comes professionally restored and is presented in excellent condition. Includes two original chrome-plated keys.
