Baroque Secretary Desk, Berne Switzerland 18th century
Exquisite Baroque secretary desk, Berne (Switzerland) 1750, in the style of Swiss cabinetmaker Mathaeus Funk (1697-1783). The upper part has a sloping writing flap. The outside is decorated with a beautiful walnut veneer pattern, the inside opens to a writing compartment with 7 drawers and some open compartments. The writing surface has a red leather in the middle (later) and walnut veneer on the sides. The lower part has three large drawers. The secretary desk has its original bronze fittings and escutcheons. It has been professionally refinished and has a shellac hand polish.
