Ceramic Art Wall Installation, Handmade
Introducing the ceramic art wall installation / sculpture “Coeur de cible”. French ceramist and sculptor.
In her vast workshop, calm and bathed in the light of Charente Maritime, each of Marik Korus’ creations show a desire to pursue a search for rigour, for volume. It is the risk that comes with taking on the challenge of porcelain. The meaning of this quest has always been to offer more to the observer. With each observation, she discovers a new element, a new interpretation, perhaps just pertaining to the technical realisation of her work.
The rounded, ample, curvaceous shapes all have a family resemblance, but each has its own character. Their ornaments of elements make them unique. Marik Korus’ meticulous and patient work gives each piece its richness. The hours spent in the workshop shaping and grinding the clay give birth to incredible membranes, tubes, waves, which crumple, almost blow, a poetic wandering in the white purity of the porcelain…
To create porcelain elements, I roll out a thin sheet with a thickness of 2 millimeters. The shapes are cut with a knife or cookie cutter. They are then reworked to refine the edges and achieve a more flexible form. They are pierced using a potter’s needle (for the suspension nylon thread to pass through).
2 firings are done, the first at 1000 degrees, the second at 1250 degrees, which provides both strength and the unique color of the porcelain.
For stringing, I create a final dimension plan with each thread marked in its place to achieve a better result in the final form. Each element is threaded onto a nylon thread with a small transparent bead that allows for blocking.
The threads are marked with a letter and a number to hang them at the right spot on the support with a small hook. This support can be directly attached to the ceiling or fixed to the wall using brackets.
A hanging plan is provided for installation.
