Cherry Biedermeier Bookcase, Southern Germany circa 1820
Introducing a cherry Biedermeier bookcase from Southern Germany, circa 1820. Imbued with the style of the period, this elegant display cabinet captures the essence of Biedermeier design.
Crafted in cherrywood veneer on softwood, the bookcase features refined details that exemplify the Biedermeier aesthetic. Ebony accents adorn the edges of the doors and the strip between them, overall enhancing the visual appeal. The doors showcase a book-matched cherrywood veneer inlay at the bottom front which adds a touch of sophistication. Ebonized corner columns, moldings in the cornice, and a base with solid cherry wood square tapered legs contribute to the overall grace of the piece. Showcasing four old glass windows, separated by a cherry wood and ebony veneered intermediate bar. Inside features a painted black interior, equip with five adjustable black insert boards. The thick cast brass fittings and hinges, along with the 2 bolts on the left and a box lock on the right, attest to the craftsmanship and attention to detail.
In good condition, this Biedermeier bookcase has been restored and hand-polished with shellac.
