French Directoire furniture preserves the elegant and stately characteristics of earlier periods. But, like Gustavian design, the Directoire style is much more restrained. This moderation is evident in the elongated, uncomplicated shapes and clear lines of most pieces.
The elegant commode offered here has the typical, straight-lined design, a reminiscent of the Louis XVI period, and appealing carved details. Plum and elm tree veneer and the grey marble top add to the elegant character of this unique commode. The original brass fittings are modest compared to its predecessors of the Louis XV period and are therefore one of the typical features of the French Directoire furniture style. While this period was economically and socially troubled, personal wealth among private citizens grew. And as it did, so did the demand for furniture. Instead of the more expensive mahogany, cabinetmakers preferred homegrown types of wood. It was wasn’t until Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise to power that French furniture would return to its earlier extravagance.

Parcel Delivery
Shipment is arranged through recognized carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL.
Only pieces that can be safely packed in a box or envelope may be shipped via parcel.
Shipping charges start at $20 and vary based on the size, weight, packaging and the value of the item.
Items are typically delivered within 2 weeks of the purchase date.

On approved returns, the buyer is responsible for full cost of return packing & shipping.
The items are insured during the shipping process and the shipper’s insurance will cover the cost for any damage which was caused by the shipper during the shipping process.
Local Pickup & Local Delivery
All sales are final once buyer or buyer’s agent takes possession of an item.
Upon inspection, if you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller.
Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final.
