This German Baroque walnut chest of drawers dates to circa 1750. The piece features a softly curved front, typical of Baroque design. Its compact scale makes it easy to place.
The chest has three drawers. Each drawer is decorated with a pretty walnut veneer and inlay pattern. The flowing grain adds visual interest and warmth. The piece stands on classic bun feet, which enhance its sculptural form.
The chest retains its bronze fittings. These details complement the walnut and reinforce the period character. The surface has been expertly refinished. A traditional hand-applied shellac polish was used. The finish gives the wood depth and a soft sheen.
This antique chest works beautifully as a bedroom commode, accent chest, or statement piece in an entryway or living space. It pairs well with both traditional and contemporary interiors.
