Neoclassical Biedermeier Secrétaire, Walnut, Yew, Ebonized, Germany, circa 1830
A beautiful straight lined, rectilinear and unadorned Neoclassical Biedermeier secrétaire / secretary / writing armoire or desk from Central Germany, circa 1830.
This secrétaire has a finely chosen and continuously running and bookmatched walnut veneer. Hand polished with shellac (French polish).
Inside veneered in yew with black polished / ebonized writing surface. The secrétaire has ebonized key sockets and buttons.
Bottom compartment with two doors. Functioning old locks and three keys.
Secretaries were typical Biedermeier furniture, when the writing of letters became increasingly popular. Today they can be greatly used for working on a laptop while offering much storage, that can quickly be closed and locked. The straight lined clear and modern shape of this piece of handmade furniture art, makes it ideally to combine with a modern interior. Overall, a beautiful secrétaire.
