Renaissance Style Credenza, Germany 1870
This Renaissance Style credenza was made in the second half of the 19th century in Germany, It was made during the so called Historicism/ Gruenderzeit period. The Gründerzeit era describes art, design, architecture and furniture objects from Germany and Austria-Hungary during the second half of the 19th century. In broader terms you can also describe it as part of the historicism movement. The cabinetmakers were inspired by medieval and Renaissance design and created more rustic looking furniture. Their preferred wood was oak. The pieces of this period feature hand carved decorations which are of very good quality.
