Small Desk in Amboyna Burl, Speich Frères, Art Deco – 1930
Small middle desk in Amboyna Burl from the Parisian cabinetmaker Speich Frères, active between 1900 and 1940. This unique piece of furniture, a testament to the expertise of master cabinetmakers during the Decorative Arts period, has contemporary and avant-garde lines for the time. This desk is made up of glass on its top covering a taupe-colored tapestry and matching the concave front of the piece of furniture. On the belt, two drawers are equipped with white Art Deco style pull handles. The base is made up of thick panels covered with amboyna burl sheets arranged in an open book. They form large molded feet at the top. Two stained wooden bases, carved with waves, support the whole. This desk has the plaque: “SPEICH FRÈRES 230 Fg. St Antoine PARIS” as proof of attribution.

Varnished finish.
