Biedermeier side table on three curved feet.
All parts of this charming table are original and the walnut veneer has been carefully refinished without touching its original patina.
The table was made around 1820-30 in south Germany.
The Biedermeier style is marked by a modest, sophisticated functional design. It was the period of economic impoverishment. Therefore, representation faded into the background.
The time of the Congress of Vienna marks the beginning of this new development and it ends with the onset of the European Revolutions of 1848 . The focus in furniture design shifted from a representative to a more domestic function of the furniture pieces.
Small side tables were used in the same way we use them today. Next to settees to put down glasses or cups. Or also in room corners, often decorated with vases or candleholders.
In today’s interiors this Biedermeier side table can be perfectly combined with a contemporary settee or it could also be used in a small entryway. Place a modern lamp on it or decorate it with a contemporary glass object or vase.
