French Louis XVI Mahogany Chest of Drawers, circa 1780
An elegant French Louis XVI chest of drawers dating to circa 1780, featuring refined proportions and beautiful contrasting wood veneers.
The two-drawer commode is crafted in mahogany veneer, framed by broad bands of warm cherry veneer across the drawer fronts and sides. The restrained geometric design reflects the refined Neoclassical aesthetic of the Louis XVI period.
The chest retains its original bronze fittings and is topped with a shaped marble top, creating an elegant contrast with the rich tones of the wood.
In very good condition, the commode has been expertly refinished to preserve and enhance the beauty of its historic veneers. A sophisticated and highly versatile example of 18th-century French furniture, equally suited to traditional and contemporary interiors.
