Gustavian Style

The Gustavian period is a Swedish art movement coinciding with the reigns of Gustav III and Gustav IV at the end of the 18th century. Distinct from contemporary French pieces, Gustavian furniture features clean lines and frequently lavish decor. It bridges a more conservative Neoclassicism with theatrical Baroque elements. Gold features, reflective surfaces, and marble tops are all common features of Gustavian furniture.
