Neoclassical Biedermeier Chest or Half-Cabinet, Walnut, South Germany circa 1825
A beautiful and elegant Neoclassical Biedermeier chest or half-cabinet from South Germany, crafted around 1825. This fine antique features a warm walnut veneer on softwood, showcasing the timeless craftsmanship of the early 19th century.
The piece is distinguished by thick, partially ebonized full columns and ebonized diamond-shaped key escutcheons. Below, two doors open to reveal an interior with two old, adjustable softwood shelves. The doors are counter-veneered in oak on the inside and feature one original inset lock on the right and two hinges on the left. A single drawer at the top also retains its original lock.
Restored and shellac hand-polished, the cabinet is in excellent condition. Each door has one closed and professionally restored crack in the center, a testament to its age and authenticity.
