Austrian Baroque Cabinet with Floral Marquetry, Salzburg, circa 1700
This magnificent Austrian Baroque cabinet dates to around 1700–1710 and originates from Salzburg. It showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and decorative richness of early 18th-century furniture. Its architectural silhouette and intricate floral marquetry reflect the elegance of the Baroque period.
The cabinet features a rectangular body with a multi-stepped, projecting cornice. Two large doors form the architecturally structured front. Rich walnut and walnut burl veneers create a warm, elegant appearance. In addition, fine fruitwood inlays depict stylized flowers, leaves, and delicate arabesques. Decorative friezes and geometric stringing further enhance the elaborate design.
A prominent central locking strip emphasizes the symmetrical façade. Gilded bronze fittings and decorative mounts add luxurious accents. Below, a distinctive two-tiered, concave base rests on flattened ball feet. This elegant construction balances the cabinet’s substantial proportions.
Expert craftsmen carefully restored the cabinet while preserving its authentic antique patina. A traditional hand-applied shellac polish highlights the natural beauty and depth of the wood grain.
This exceptional Salzburg Baroque cabinet combines historical significance with outstanding decorative appeal. As a result, it makes a striking statement piece in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
