Biedermeier Swan Sofa – South Germany, 1830
This exceptional Biedermeier sofa, crafted in South Germany circa 1830, features a graceful, slightly curved cherry wood frame and exquisite hand-carved swan motifs on each side. These sculptural swan elements lend a refined Neoclassical flair to the piece, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship typical of the period.
This was a bespoke commission by a Bavarian ébéniste in the early 19th century for a prominent family in Bamberg, Germany. Remarkably, the sofa remained in that family’s possession for almost 200 years and has never been on the market until now, making it an extraordinary find.
The piece has been recently reupholstered with high-end materials, offering both luxurious comfort and timeless elegance. This rare antique Biedermeier sofa would make a sophisticated centerpiece in a formal living room, library, or master suite.
