Early Biedermeier Commode, South Germany circa 1820 – Cherry Veneer
This striking early Biedermeier commode or chest of drawers was crafted in South Germany around 1820 and exemplifies the elegance and simplicity of early 19th-century Biedermeier design. Warm cherry wood veneer over a softwood core, showcasing the refined grain and understated beauty of the period.
Three spacious drawers provide ample storage. Ebonized half-columns with beautifully detailed brass capitals featuring floral leaf motifs flank the drawers. Ebonized trims and escutcheons add graphic contrast and highlight the classical influence of early Biedermeier furniture.
Inside, all drawers retain their original iron box locks and come with three functional keys. The commode comes fully restored and finished with a traditional, hand-polished shellac, enhancing the depth and sheen of the cherry veneer.
A versatile piece ideal for elegant bedrooms, refined entryways, or living rooms, this antique Biedermeier chest blends timeless design with practical storage.
