Empire Armoire, Walnut Veneer, Brass, Austria/Vienna, circa 1815
A very elegant Empire armoire from Vienna, Austria. This piece dates back to 1815 and was built in the transition phase between the epochs of Empire and early Biedermeier. The armoire showcases a lovely walnut veneer with original brass hardware. The veneer is beautifully book-matched and hand polished with shellac (French Polish). It is quite unadorned in its shape and speaks through the vividness of the veneered walnut wood. The armoire has two ebonized full-columns with brass bases and Corinthian capitals. A black cotton fabric covers three inlay plates found inside the armoire. Customize the plates depending on your needs! The armoire is completely detachable for transport (top, bottom, two sides, two doors, two back panels). Overall, a wonderful armoire that would make a great addition to any home.
