French antique chest of drawers, Transition period 1760-70.
This exquisite French antique chest of drawers is a wonderful example for French antique furniture, made between the Louis XV and the Louis XVI period. This elegant commode dates back to around 1770 and originates from the Paris region.
The French antique chest of drawers has a beautiful kingwood, satinwood and tulipwood veneer on all three sides.
The tulipwood veneer has a motif called “en ailes de papillon” (“butterfly wings”), based on the choice and quality of the wood grains, and their arrangement in order to obtain a butterfly motif. Satinwood fillets highlight the Greek-style kingwood frame. The drawers are decorated “sans traverse”, one continuous veneer motif without interruption.
Original bronze fittings decorate the drawers and the legs. Additionally the chest has its original grey-white marble top.
