German Biedermeier Walnut Chest of Drawers, circa 1820
This elegant German Biedermeier walnut chest of drawers dates to around 1820. Its clean architectural lines and beautifully figured walnut veneer reflect the refined cabinetmaking of the period.
Four drawers provide generous storage. The cabinetmaker carefully selected the walnut veneer to create a symmetrical grain pattern across the front. The rich color and expressive figuring give the chest its distinctive character. A decorative veneer band along the projecting top adds another subtle detail.
Two ebonized columns frame the façade and contrast beautifully with the warm walnut. Small gilt details accent the column bases and reinforce the architectural design. Figured walnut veneer also decorates the sides of the chest.
Strong square feet complete the balanced silhouette. With its elegant proportions, warm walnut tones and bold ebonized details, this antique chest complements both classic and contemporary interiors.
