Late 19th Century Italian Oil Painting on Board, Path in the Woods, Signed
We present this fantastic oil painting on board dating back to the end of the 19th century. The painting features the Leto signature at the bottom right (see photo). Attributable to the Italian figurative painter Antonino Leto (Monreale, 14 June 1844 – Capri, 31 May 1913) as per the plate on the frame, painted without authentication.
This is a painting of great artistic quality, the sensitivity of a 19th century painter towards the representation of landscapes is clearly visible with a clear influence of the veristic style. The bright colours of a forest where the trees dominate with green leaves on the branches capture the attention well. The light penetrates between the thick branches of the trees and suggests a sunny day. A dirt path in the centre of the representation determines the perspective and leads the eye towards the thick and dark interior of the forest that the viewer can only imagine with his imagination. The material application of the colour increases the feeling of reality.
The work is accompanied by a beautiful gilded wooden frame. If you love paintings where nature is the main subject, you should definitely consider adding this beautiful painting to your collection!
