Walnut Enfilade with Bronze Mounts in Belgian Art Deco Style
This impressive walnut Enfilade showcases the refined craftsmanship of Northern European cabinetmaking from the 1930s and 1940s. The long three-door façade stretches across two meters and creates a strong architectural presence. Rounded corners soften the geometric lines and add elegant balance to the design. A richly figured wood veneer covers the entire surface. Vertical grain patterns bring rhythm and movement to the front panels. Thin brass stringing highlights the crossbars and reinforces the cabinet’s sophisticated structure.
Short tapered legs support the cabinet and end with solid brass sabots. The central door features a large chased bronze medallion with a floral motif. This sculptural bronze detail surrounds the keyhole and creates a luxurious focal point.
This Wood and Bronze Enfilade strongly recalls the celebrated work of De Coene Frères in Kortrijk, Belgium. The atelier gained international recognition after the 1925 Paris Exhibition of Decorative Arts. During the 1930s and 1940s, De Coene mastered the use of noble woods, rich varnishes, and finely crafted bronze hardware for elite interiors.
The structure remains heavy, stable, and solid. The top surface shows visible wear, including stains, faded rings, and scratches from use. Minor veneer losses and light rubbing appear on some edges and doors. The cabinet would benefit from refinishing, although its current patina offers authentic vintage character.
