This rare Directoire-period secretary desk combines refined elegance with practical design. Crafted around 1790-1800 in France, it features a beautifully grained mahogany veneer with original round pearl beading moldings that highlight the clean lines of the period.
The lower section stands on four slender legs and includes two spacious drawers. The distinctive cylinder top rolls back to reveal a pull-out writing surface with its original leather, as well as an array of small drawers and open compartments—perfect for organizing correspondence or writing tools.
Above, the integrated bookcase includes two drawers and a display cabinet with a shelf behind glazed doors, ideal for storing or showcasing books and curiosities.
The desk is in good condition and retains its original fittings. A careful surface restoration is available at an additional cost of $2,000.
