Exceptional corner cabinet which dates back to 1815-1820 and derives from Northern Germany.
The cabinet has a beautiful mahogany veneer. Furthermore, ebonized columns with brass capitals and bases decorate the sides. Three open shelves and one drawer offer a lot of space to display books or decorative items.
This is a very rare and unusual furniture piece.
Early Biedermeier Style
The French Empire and Directoire style largely influenced the early Biedermeier design language.
Most furniture from the French Empire period has large dimensions and abundant adornment. These serve the purpose of making the pieces look striking and magnificent. The Biedermeier style, however, is much more humble and was not meant to decorate large halls in representative castles.
For the first time the emerging middle class was the main customer. These furniture pieces were meant to decorate private homes. Functionality and subdued elegance were paramount.
Nevertheless, the decoration design language of the early Biedermeier pieces often still draws from Empire elements. The gilded brass capitals and bases of the ebonized columns of this corner cabinet are a very good example for that.

The Biedermeier corner cabinet is in very good condition. It comes refinished and French polished. It measures: Height: 63.78 in. (162 cm), Width: 37.41 in. (95 cm), Depth: 19.69 in. (50 cm). It ships from Germany and includes shipping costs to Boston.
