An impressive 18th-century Baroque bureau cabinet, distinguished by its architectural proportions, serpentine form, and exceptionally rich combination of figured wood veneers.
The lower section features three generously sized drawers with shaped fronts, framed by contrasting veneers and fine geometric stringing. Above, the fall-front writing desk opens to reveal a fitted interior with multiple small drawers and a spacious writing surface.
The upper cabinet features two doors beneath an elegant arched cornice. Large bookmatched figured walnut panelscreate a dramatic decorative effect, while contrasting veneer borders and delicate stringing emphasize the cabinet’s architectural lines. In addition, the sides continue the sophisticated veneer decoration, demonstrating the attention given to the piece from every angle.
Throughout the cabinet, the maker carefully selected and arranged the veneers to highlight their expressive grain. Ornate gilt-metal handles and escutcheons provide an elegant contrast to the warm tones of the wood and complete the rich Baroque appearance.
