Design Desk by Michael Mittelman
With a ghost leg and a virtual leg, this contemporary design desk by Michael Mittelman includes many of the elements found in our line of furniture. The pulls for the three drawers are hidden on the side, allowing the lines of carved drawer fronts to flow unimpeded. Rendered here in maple and walnut, this desk could be customized with more muted woods like mahogany, or brighter woods like padauk.
Stahl Woodworking Description
Stahl Design is a custom furniture and lighting company which grew out of the sculpture practice of Michael Mittelman. In addition to degrees in art from Wesleyan University and Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Michael studied at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
Michael’s design process is intuitive and iterative. Combining contemporary manufacturing and traditional woodworking, he has developed innovative visual elements and reinterpreted classic motifs. He uses a broad variety of wood species to provide color and texture, and his designs include large sweeping curves and small details. Michael prepares extensive computer renderings to create masterpieces in collaboration with his clients. The final piece has the exquisite finish that only comes with dozens of hours of hand sanding and finishing. Each piece truly glows from his master craftsmanship.Â
