Rare Italian Renaissance Walnut Study and Desk, 1900
This exquisite Mazarin-style study and desk set from the early 1900s is a remarkable example of Italian Renaissance revival furniture. Crafted from richly carved walnut, each piece is adorned with intricate gilding and painting, showcasing the elegance of the era.
The desk features a framed top with a molded gilded edge and a luxurious wine-red leather center adorned with a gilded vignette. Its left-side sliding shelf expands the work surface, while three drawers, decorated with carved foliage and arabesques, add both functionality and beauty. The desk rests on eight sculpted feet, connected by elegant X-shaped spacers, a nod to classic Mazarin desks. The feet, adorned with grotesque faces and ending in gilded lion paws, enhance its majestic appearance.
The accompanying work cabinet is equally impressive, with four doors, an open space, and multiple drawers. Its central doors showcase wine-colored sheet metal, painted with putti, and surrounded by ornate moldings. Flanking the central section are taller doors, each intricately carved and painted with arabesques and scrolls. The cabinet stands on eight feet, the front ones capped with gilded lion paws, while the upper part of the uprights is decorated with grotesque faces and rosettes.
In pristine antique condition after expert restoration.
