Biedermeier Wardrobe, South German 1820
An original Biedermeier wardrobe, which was made around 1820 in Southern Germany.
All parts of this beautiful armoire are original and have been refinished and French polished without touching the original color of the exquisite mirrored walnut veneer. The black accents of the columns are in contrast to the warm color of the walnut veneer and give the piece a modern touch.
Biedermeier
Throughout the Biedermeier period, emphasis was kept upon clean lines and minimal ornamentation. As the period progressed, however, the style moved from the early rebellion against Romantic-era fussiness to increasingly ornate commissions.
The wardrobe offered here, dates back to the earlier phase of the Biedermeier style where the strict design still dominated.
