Louis XVI style armchairs, France 19th century.
The pair of Louis XVI style armchairs are made of pear wood. Their straight back is crowned with a finely carved wreath decoration. The frame of the upholstered seat and back is decorated with carved details as well. The seat is ending on round tapered baluster legs. The armchairs originally belonged to a salon suite composed of one settee and two chairs. The settee and the chairs are sold separately. Price for the set $5,000 including the settee
The suite shows the typical features of the Louis XVI style. The chairs of the Louis XV period were characterized by elegance, lightness and simplicity of form. The legs were often inspired by classical Greek or Roman column designs. The design of the carvings drew inspiration from antique decorations, mainly the wall decorations of Pompeii, which were discovered in the second half of the 18th century. Because of its straight lines, the Louis XVI style furniture is easy to combine with any contemporary interior. Incorporating pieces from different periods and styles is a great way to add character, energy, and liveliness to any room.
The chairs measure 39 x 26 x 22.83 inches (99.06 x 66.04 x 57.99 cm), seat height 17 inches (43.18 cm). They are in original condition.
