Empire Commode with Two Caryatids, Cherry Veneer, South Germany, circa 1815
A beautifully restored Empire commode with two caryatids from Southern Germany. The commode dates back to 1810-15. Featuring a wonderful, bright and friendly cherry veneer and solid wood, book-matched and running over the front side. The commode is hand polished with shellac and partly ebonized on the edges and feet. This commode has beautiful original brass caryatids with gold colored heads and feet and ebonized pilaster bodies. The commode contains brass key tags, one original and two cast, with a motif that depicts two mermaids facing each other. Overall a wonderful piece of antique furniture that is ready for your home.
