The tabletop is a masterpiece in itself, consisting of two distinct parts. At the center, you’ll find a meticulously crafted three-layer laminate of maple and mahogany. The real magic lies in the exquisite use of epoxy resin, which fills the intricately carved lines, adding a touch of elegance and highlighting the artistry of the design. Surrounding this central masterpiece, the rim is constructed from a five-layer laminate of maple and mahogany, creating a harmonious and visually striking contrast.

The split legs, crafted from mahogany, inherit the graceful curves of the elliptical top. They elegantly meet with a detail of maple, completing the table’s captivating design. This meticulous attention to detail and the choice of premium materials set the M.30 Coffee Table apart as a statement piece in any living space.

The inspiration for this extraordinary creation came from a deeply personal place. The designer was motivated to craft this coffee table  after creating two artist books and realizing he couldn’t have his work sit on someone else’s design. Stahl Design is a custom furniture and lighting company which grew out of the sculpture practice of Michael Mittelman. In addition to degrees in art from Wesleyan University and Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Michael studied at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Michael’s design process is intuitive and iterative. Combining contemporary manufacturing and traditional woodworking, he has developed innovative visual elements and reinterpreted classic motifs. He uses a broad variety of wood species to provide color and texture, and his designs include large sweeping curves and small details. Michael prepares extensive computer renderings to create masterpieces in collaboration with his clients. The final piece has the exquisite finish that only comes with dozens of hours of hand sanding and finishing. Each piece truly glows from his master craftsmanship.
