Joe Colombo ‘Elda’ Lounge Chair, Cream Fiberglass & Black Leather, Comfort, Italy, 1965–1975
Joe Colombo designed the iconic ‘Elda’ lounge chair in 1963 as a bold vision of future living. Comfort in Meda, Italy produced this early example between 1965 and the mid-1970s, making it a highly collectible first-generation piece of Italian Space Age design.
The chair features a sculptural fiberglass-reinforced shell in a cream tone, which retains its original patina and shows minor age-related cracking typical of early production. The integrated 360-degree swivel base enhances both function and presence.
Inside, upholstered polyurethane cushions wrapped in soft black leather deliver comfort while preserving Colombo’s original design intent. A professional reupholstery ensures durability without compromising authenticity.
Collectors value this model for its distinct silhouette, innovative materials, and historical significance within mid-century Italian design.
