Introducing a wonderful Empire secretary desk from Vienna, circa 1810-15. Crafted with exceptional artistry, this secretary desk, or writing cabinet, exemplifies the neoclassical elegance of the time. The ebonized hardwood body, veneered on oak, presents a captivating facade. Pilaster columns with gilded capitals, all original and patinated, add a touch of opulence. The classicist gable cornice, adorned with a surrounding gold-plated egg bar strip, contributes to the overall regal aesthetic. The front of the gable features an ink painting depicting an ancient ceremony in a landscape, with a hidden drawer cleverly concealed behind. The interior, crafted in maple and pear wood, reveals secret compartments, archways, and small ebonized columns with gilded capitals. Maintaining authenticity, all original brass fittings and iron locks are intact. This antique secretary desk is in excellent, greatly restored condition, hand-polished with shellac.
